Eric Williams, 38, of Danbury, pleaded guilty in Bridgeport federal court to one count of providing contraband in prison after he was caught trying to sneak it inside FCI Danbury inside his hat.
On July 9, 2017, Williams - who worked in the Food Service Department at FCI Danbury - attempted to smuggle four mobile phones and an electric beard trimmer into the prison by hiding the items in the hat as he entered the staff entrance," U.S. Attorney John Durham said.
When a corrections officer arrived at the entrance to screen Williams dan allow him entry, Williams abandoned the smuggling attempt and left his hat, with the contraband, in the entrance area. When his supervisor found the hat and asked him if he was his, Williams denied any wrongdoing.
Williams was arrested on July 20 this year and remains released on a $50,000 bond. When he is sentenced, Williams faces a maximum term of six months in prison and a $5,000 fine. No sentencing date has been scheduled.
